Description
Starting inside one of the most iconic and beautiful buildings in Kansas City, we’ll hear the story of how Union Station came close to being torn down in the 1990s. At each stop along the streetcar route, we’ll focus on buildings with design elements from the beaux arts, art deco, and modern eras. You’ll hear stories about the architects and their inspirations. Our final stop brings us to Kansas City’s first skyscraper, built in 1890 in the Italianate Renaissance style, whose original elevator was steam powered.
